My children have been in taekwondo at Hoosier Taekwondo for eleven years. Going into the process I really didn’t know what to expect- my reasoning for trying the program was I was raising three boys and I wanted to be sure they had all the tools they needed to be successful later in life. I had known others throughout my life that had done martial arts and couple things they all had in common was a calm collected domener as well as a quiet confidence that I admired. I knew I wasn’t just raising boys – I was raising boys that would some day be husbands and fathers, talk about pressure. I knew these were things I couldn’t necessarily teach all on my own. So putting them in martial arts was one of the best decisions I ever made. It has taught them when and how to stick with something no matter what- even when it’s hard, boring, hurts or just seems impossible. Throughout the years they have been challenged, pushed and rewarded for their efforts and sucess. It’s helped to not only make them stronger physically, but also mentally. It’s given them that quiet confidence I wanted so bad for them to have. I wanted them to be so strong within so that nothing from the outside could defeat them. The world is tough, can be brutal at times so I wanted to be sure they could withstand the pressures that they would face. I wanted to be sure I was raising leaders, not followers, especially through those teenager years I knew would be here before I knew it. It has done so much more for the boys than I expected. It has become part of us and something they’ve been able to experience together, and a bond in sure they’ll always have. They’ve built friendships through the years that I’m sure will last a lifetime. I too have met people in this community that are life long friends. It’s like a family here at Hoosier Taekwondo that I’m proud to be a part of.
